Welcome to HistGeogUni!
Universities are eminent seats of knowledge production, circulation and transfer that represent key institutions in knowledge-based economies.
We therefore think that understanding the nature and development of universities from a long-term, historical geographical perspective is vital for the formulation of sustainable policies for the present and future welfare of all members of the university, and for constructive political, economic and socio-cultural outcomes of research, teaching and public engagement.
With this agenda in mind, we founded HistGeogUni – A global research network on the historical geographies of the university as part of a research project funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation (2016-2019) in order to connect scholars with similar research interests across the world, and to provide information on our research and public engagement to diverse academic communities and interested publics.
With best regards
